  • Rauwolfia serpentina/Sarpagandha

It was identified that Rauwolfia had the ability to reduce blood pressure due to the presence of an alkaloid called reserpine in its roots. This lowers the heart rate and causes the blood vessels to dilate, reducing pressure on the walls of the blood vessels. Researches showed that the alkaloid from the plant is a potent herbal treatment for hypertension. 

  • Phyllanthus amarus/Bhumyamalaki

The plant is used as diuretic and to lower blood pressure in traditional medicine practice. Studies proved that Phyllanthus amarus is an inhibitor of conversion enzyme (ICE). These compounds are hypotensive and they interfere with the liberation of angiotensin responsible for blood pressure. 

  • Boerhaavia diffusa/Punarnava

Hypoxanthine and boeravinones which are active antihypertensive agents of Punarnava which acts as Ca+2 channel antagonist (Calcium channel blockers lower your blood pressure by preventing calcium from entering the cells of your heart and arteries. Calcium causes the heart and arteries to contract more strongly). It also acts as diuretic by increasing renal blood flow by relaxing the smooth muscles of the arterial wall. 

  • Withania Somnifera/Aswagandha

Studies found that the alkaloids in Aswagandha had a prolonged hypotensive and respiratory-stimulant action. The hypotensive effect is mainly due to autonomic ganglion blocking action and depressant action on the higher cerebral centers. It also controls cortisol secretion in the body thereby combact stress response. 

  • Sida rhombifolia

This herb increases antioxidants in heart tissue for heart health and repair, keeps blood pressure in healthy range and is an antioxidant that knocks out free radicals. 

  • Tribulus terrestris/ Gokshura

The results of a study reveals that the fruits of Gokshura had a significant action in reduction of clinical symptoms like giddiness, headache and insomnia related to hypertension.
