Importance of Coconut Oil in Ayurvedic Skincare

by Miriam Jojo on October 01, 2021

The idea of Ayurveda on skin and health is to encourage balance, therefore your skin should reflect that. Understanding your body type via Ayurveda's three dosha types: vata (air), pitta (fire), and kapha (water) is the first step in creating an efficient skincare program (water). Knowing your dosha type can help you understand what meals and activities are ideal for you.

Herbs and natural components are used in Ayurvedic skincare products to help revitalize, moisturize, and protect your skin. This guarantees that you have radiant skin all year long, free of any potentially dangerous chemical responses such as allergies or inflammation.

Coconut oil may be beneficial to the skin due to its high oil content and hydrating properties. It's simple to apply directly to the skin and has no side effects. Coconut oil is being studied as a potential topical therapy for persistent skin irritation.

However, research into the health advantages of coconut oil is still underway. Coconut oil is a highly saturated oil that is extracted traditionally from raw coconuts or dried coconut kernels.

The Skin Benefits of Coconut Oil

  • Inflammation caused by UVB radiation can be reduced.
  • Wound healing is promoted.
  • Antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral capabilities.
  • Helps to moisturize the skin.
  • Skin hydration is improved.

Coconut oil comes in several forms

Virgin coconut oil and refined coconut oil are the two primary varieties. Virgin coconut oil is produced from fresh coconuts and contains more antioxidants and polyphenols than regular coconut oil. Known for its reliability. Coconut oil that has been refined is made from the meat of a dried coconut.

More processing processes, such as machine pressing, may be required to get refined coconut oil. Chemical solvents, deodorizers, and bleaching may all be used by some manufacturers.

The extraction method determines the kind of coconut oil. The oil is referred to as cold-pressed coconut oil when it is obtained without the use of heat. This kind might have a higher nutritional value.

It's great for dry skin

In a small mixing dish, combine coconut oil, vitamin E oil, and other essential oils. Stir everything up thoroughly before pouring it into a container with a cover. Allow it to rest for a bit. As a result, the natural moisturizer is complete.

Now, whenever you want to hydrate your skin, simply open the container's top, scoop out enough mixture to cover your face, and gently massage it upwards. Because coconut oil is beneficial for dry skin, pay special attention to slightly damp skin.

Dark circles and Coconut oil

After washing your face, pat it dry. Take roughly a spoonful of coconut oil and gently apply it towards the nose in a tiny circular motion, then reverse it. Massage each eye for at least a few minutes. Allow it to soak or keep it overnight.

Coconut oil encourages cell turnover, thickens the skin, and lightens the complexion. Due to the inclusion of lauric acid, which also has antibacterial qualities, it helps speed up the healing process if dark circles are caused by bruising or injury.

Beneficial for Body Massage

Warm a combination of coconut oil and essential oil between your palms before hopping into the bath. Start massaging your entire body with upward strokes from your feet to your face. In a circular motion, massage your joints and tummy. Allow 5-10 minutes for your skin to absorb the oils before rinsing off any excess oil in the shower. The procedure for using coconut oil for facial massage is the same as described previously.

The purpose of a coconut oil body massage is to improve circulation and relax the nervous system. To restore the skin, it contains antibacterial, moisturizing, and healing qualities. It's also high in vitamin E and antioxidants, which help to prevent skin ageing.

Choose unrefined, low-temperature-processed coconut oil that is 100% natural and free of chemicals. You may choose between virgin coconut oil (produced from fresh coconut meat) and wood-pressed coconut oil for your skin (made from dry coconuts or copra).

Refined coconut oil has a higher level of inflammation-fighting antioxidants than virgin or wood-pressed coconut oil.

Hair Benefits of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil's advantages aren't limited to the skin. This wonderful natural oil can also help your hair. For years, it's been recognized as a lifesaver for dry, dehydrated hair.

Because of its fatty acid composition and low molecular weight, coconut oil penetrates the hair shaft easier than other oils. Coconut oil on the hair not only nourishes but also strengthens and protects your dry strands, decreasing protein loss and damage caused by style and coloring.

It helps to restore bounce, gloss, and healthy-looking hair by repairing damage and improving resilience in the hair.
