Rakta shali rice (Oryza sativa var. punctata)
Rakta Sali is an ancient food revered in Ayurveda as a rice that promotes good health and longevity. Cultivated organically in just one or two farms in Kerala, this exotic high-nutrition white-tipped rice with red bran, has properties to slow down the process of ageing. As per Ayurveda scriptures raktha sali is rich in antioxidants, calcium, zinc, iron, and other minerals, and can correct the imbalance of the Tridoshas. Rakta Sali can be cooked and eaten just like any other variety of rice.
How to use
Rakthasali porridge: Take 1 cup of rice in a bowl and wash throughly. Drain off the water and add the rice to 6 cups of water in a pressure cooker. Cook in slow flame. When the rice is soft, add milk and boil for another two minutes. Add cashew nuts and raisins for rich taste. Addition of sugar makes the porridge tastier.
